Sunsaria’s downtempo tour de force ‘Australien’ made it into US radio’s Musical Starstreams Top Twenty albums of 2010. The program which began in the 1980’s is syndicated to over 200 commercial stations globally, and is regarded by many as the ultimate program for downtempo electronica.
‘Australien’ evokes a golden age of electronic music where musicianship and organic sounds mesh with synthesis and samples under a canopy of psychedelic chilled electronica. Sunsaria draws on dub, space rock, hip hop beats, ambient music and pop, bringing a filmic soundscape sensibility to his spacey downtempo grooves. Take a rare aural journey to the great warehouse party in the sky, via all the chill-out rooms, forest raves and loungeroom DJ sets you’ve ever visited in an alternative dimension.
On this album, Sunsaria, aka DJ/producer/multi instrumentalist Baz Bardoe, is joined by long time collaborator Robert Boehm ( aka Bo from Melbourne electronic dub icons Winduptoys) contributing as musician, sound engineer & co-producer on selected tracks. Other guests and collaborations include singer /songwriter Lulea, internationally renowned techno experimentalist Robin Rimbaud (aka Scanner), trance avatar Rip Van Hippy, flautist Megan Kenny, and FX wizard Jeremy Smith (other half of Winduptoys).
Sunsaria has released music on a diverse range of international labels including Invisible (the US based label run by Martin Atkins of NIN, Ministry, Killing Joke and PiL infamy); Matsuri Productions (UK); Cosmic Leaf (Greece); Chillosophy (Sweden); Nova Tekk (Germany) and Australian labels Creative Vibes; Clan Analogue; EMI & JJJ.
Bardoe’s production and performance credits include work with artists such as Martin Atkins (Nine Inch Nails, Ministry, PiL and Killing Joke); Bernie Torme (Ozzy Osbourne band, Ian Gillan, Atomic Rooster etc); Josh Abrahams; Pigface (industrial ‘supergroup’); The Damage Manual (Jah Wobble and members of Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Ministry and Pigface); Martyrs Shrine (death metal) ; the Omm Squad as well as many others.
As a live artist and DJ, Bardoe has played at festivals such as Nocturnal, Earthcore, Big Day Out, Offshore, Rainbow Serpent, Massive (NZ) and the Falls, as well as venues such as the Hi-Fi Bar, Corner Hotel, Punter’s Club, Northcote Social Club and Loop.
Sunsaria has two more albums on release – ‘Blue Dreaming’ which was also released in 2010 and most recently ‘Solis’. Both albums take a completely ambient direction, aimed squarely at healing, meditation, yoga and relaxation.
‘Blue Dreaming’ was described by Nexus magazine as ‘a classic sound healing album’.
In 2012 Sunsaria will release a new album titled ‘Edge of the Galaxy’ which will meld the downtempo, dub infused vibes of ‘Australien’ with the pure ambience of ‘Solis’. A collaborative album of dark industro-ambient music made with long time collaborator Wind Up Toys, titled ‘Darkness Descends’ is also planned, along with several singles for radio, the first being ‘Revolutionary’ the popular track from ‘Australien’. Sunsaria will also launch his own record and clothing label in 2012 - it will be a busy year.
